“We really loved the whole day.” It’s a simple enough sentiment you’ll hear from lots of newlyweds, but for Nicholas Pulzone and Amber Leigh Cepriano (she goes by Leigh) it didn’t come without a few hiccups along the way. After 13 years together, the couple knew they wanted a small wedding, but they were soon swept up in a sea of expectations and found themselves talked into a huge venue and a 200+ guest list.
Tallying up that final headcount was the moment they knew that it was time to go back to square one. Leigh canceled the venue, and they began planning the intimate, simple wedding of their dreams. “We were able to do the small family wedding by sticking to our guns and asking our friends and family to support us by respecting our wishes,” Leigh says. They managed to pull off a genuinely relaxed, laughter-filled day that was everything they wanted it to be—and nothing they didn’t.
September 22 dawned cool and breezy—basically, a perfect fall day. Leigh carried a classic bouquet of crimson roses, Nick let down his Fabio-like locks, their dog played ring bearer, and the couple exchanged vows in front of 30 of their nearest and dearest. “We laughed through the whole ceremony,” says Leigh, “and my uncle and dad just jammed on guitars afterward.” But the best part? “We relaxed in planning,” she says, “and were able to have a relaxed day in return.”
