Theresa Carpinito knew a ring was coming. She and boyfriend Alex Kira had talked about it, and they had even gone ring shopping together. Still, Alex managed to catch her by surprise. Two weeks into an Italian vacation, Theresa had convinced herself maybe it wasn’t going to happen. But that was about to change. Wine tasting in the Tuscan countryside, the couple went outside to snap some photos, and as Theresa took in the view, Alex took out a ring.

Back stateside, the San Francisco-based couple knew they wanted the wedding to reflect their engagement, as well as honor Theresa’s Italian heritage—all from a waterfront rooftop in Theresa’s native Seattle. To make the transformation, the design team imported more than a dozen Italian cypress trees, strung lights, and hung Mediterranean foliage throughout. An Italian band and accordion player escorted negroni- sipping family and friends from the cocktail hour to the reception, where the couple entered to the theme from The Godfather. The festa Italiana continued as guests passed around family-style platters of Delmonico steak, seafood risotto, raviolis, and broccolini. For dessert, Theresa’s 90-year-old great aunt made hundreds of Italian wedding cookies to serve alongside a towering cake from Baked. The entire day was everything Theresa and Alex could have imagined—and more.

And as dreamy as it was, her advice for others is decidedly pragmatic: Don’t sweat the small stuff. “No one cares how the napkins are folded,” Theresa says. Instead, “think about the details that are going to be really meaningful to you, because those are the things that you will remember.”
